Are you planning to go electric this year? You're not alone. More Canadians than ever are exploring Kia's EV options. However, given recent changes at both federal and provincial levels, it's essential to understand how these developments might affect your potential savings. The Canadian EV rebate landscape has shifted for 2025, so if you're considering a Kia Niro EV, EV6, or Niro PHEV, now is the perfect time to educate yourself and make an informed purchase decision.
Let's start with the most important update: currently, the nationwide iZEV program’s $5,000* rebate is temporarily suspended. Originally scheduled to run until March 31, 2025, the program ended in January due to funding running out sooner than anticipated. This means no Kia EV or PHEV model is currently eligible for a federal rebate. However, don't worry—provincial rebate programs remain active and can still save you thousands of dollars on your purchase.
Quebec continues to lead the way. If you live in Quebec, you're in luck—one of Canada's most attractive EV rebate programs remains available. For fully electric Kia models, like the Niro EV or Soul EV, you can save up to $4,000* as long as the MSRP stays below $70,000*. Plug-in hybrids, such as the Kia Niro PHEV or Sorento PHEV, qualify for rebates of up to $2,000*, depending on their battery capacity. Though slightly reduced compared to previous years, these incentives still provide significant benefits for Quebec drivers.
B.C.’s CleanBC Go Electric program is another strong contender, offering up to $4,000* for Kia EV models and up to $2,000* for PHEVs. The rebates here are income-based, which means lower-income households may benefit even more. To qualify, vehicles must fall under a $70,000* price cap for higher trims, which keeps popular models like the Niro EV and base trims of the EV6 well within reach.
Don’t overlook what’s happening in the Maritimes. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador are all offering rebates in 2025. PEI and New Brunswick are especially competitive, offering up to $5,000* for battery electric vehicles and up to $2,500* for plug-in hybrids. Even Newfoundland, which wrapped its program in mid-March, still offering up to $2,500* for BEVs and $1,500* for PHEVs. And with no MSRP cap in PEI, you can explore more options without restrictions.
If you're considering a new Kia EV, there’s still a lot of opportunity to save. Eligible models include the Niro EV, EV6, Niro PHEV, and others like the Sorento and Sportage PHEVs. While the lack of a federal rebate might feel like a setback, the provincial programs still make switching to electric a financially smart decision. For example, combining rebates in B.C. or New Brunswick could reduce the price of a Niro EV—which starts at around $48,614*—by several thousand dollars.
